You want to know what happens when you take an innovator and cut it to shreds?
You want to know what happens when you take an innovator and cut it to shreds? The undesirables come slinking
out of the shadows, offering their own solutions; but since there’s no
market leader to beat on the merits of the solution, there’s no
incentive for these guys to offer meritorious solutions. Think about it: If
Napster were still around, going strong, would anybody put up with KaZaA’s backdoor
bullshit?
Then again, maybe people are just stupid and don’t care if advantage is taken
of them.
Aaron Sorkin references this phenomenon in The American
President: “They’re so thirsty for [leadership] they’ll crawl
through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there’s no water,
they’ll drink the sand.” … “People don’t drink the sand because
they’re thirsty. They drink the sand because they don’t know the
difference.” [IMDb
