At 11:30 pm the Rice University Police Department received word from the
Houston Police Department that the Astrodome is currently beyond capacity for
hurricane evacuees. As a result, all busloads of evacuees are being turned
away from the Astrodome.

RUPD also received information from the Texas Department of Public Safety
that Houston area shelters cannot accept any more evacuees.

For the safety of the University and its community members, the decision was
made to close the entrances to the University early tonight (Thursday) and to
open them as late as practical Friday morning.
