The readiness is all.
How do you know you’re ready to travel? How do you know you haven’t forgotten anything?
The whole notion of “preparedness” constitutes a huge source of worry for me on a daily basis. The fretting scales inversely with the margin for error. Forgot something on a weekend drive to Dallas? Whatever, we’ll be back soon. Forgot something on a transcontinental voyage? Panic.
I’ve always liked being places, and always hated getting there, because that’s the window in which everything can go very wrong. For some reason I’m never particularly concerned about events in the “act of God” category; what terrifies me is the much larger category of “acts of Dan” which are, in truth, far more likely.
Assuming I don’t screw something up, Erin and I will enjoy our honeymoon (yes, five years late) in Ireland this week. To commemorate, dsandler.org will be wearing green instead of its customary blue (as well as a few butchered Irish phonemes) while we’re gone.
