Mega Latino

November 12th, 2004

Houston radio is terrible. Simply awful. The only NPR affiliate switches to insipid classical music for the better part of the day, but this transgression pales when compared to the popular music stations. Of the common radio formats, only Top 40 and 80s/90s/etc. are really represented, and those stations are all cleverly synchronized such that their 6-to-8 minute advertising marathons all coincide. Hideous.

One shiny spot in my list of presets is KLOL 101.1 FM, which is almost always out of phase with the other stations’ commercials; it might be Zeppelin (again), but at least it’s not Mattress Mac. When stuck in the car with no CDs, I can always rely on KLOL to get me through a musical dry spell.

Could. I meant to say, “I could always rely.” That’s because, quite suddenly, KLOL is now Mega Latino 101 FM. ¡Ai!
