Radial Context for Mozilla/Firefox

April 15th, 2004

Todd points me toward the Mozilla Radial
Context menu
extension. Radial menus are a classic example of a
great theory that is usually miserable in practice; linear menus are
actually more suited to dynamically changing menu items (a typical
situation in these typical times) due to the preservation of item
positions (and thus muscle memory) for non-dynamic portions of the menu.

This pie-menu extension, however, offers a small, fixed set of
functions, each identified with a small icon to aid speedy acquisition
by experienced users. (A key for the icons is displayed after a tool-tip
delay.) After a couple of hours of use, I’m really growing to like it.
