During a romp with Erin and Matt through the Houston Galleria, we
stumbled across Teavana. I had
been looking for some loose-leaf green tea for some time, and the
salesperson was kind enough to show me six or seven varieties. (Yes,
‘salesperson’: it’s that kind of store. “Think, Victoria’s Secret,
except with gallon drums of tea leaves instead of puffy brassieres with
half-inch-thick padding.” Seriously, I would have cleavage in
some of those!)

A closeup of the Dragon Well tea leaves now living in my cupboard.

Anyway, I settled on their
Dragonwell tea
, known in Chinese as 龍井 (Long
Jing, lit., “Dragon Well”, a town in Zheijang Province; history of Long Jing).
The Teavana guy said that it was “a very famous tea;” I picked it
because of the wonderful smell and appearance
of the leaves in the receptacle. The tea,
when brewed, is a medium green color and has a slightly nutty flavor.
Very calming, very tasty.
