At first I suspected that the fellow who wrote up this handy
guide for administering oral qualifying exams
is probably just upset
that he has to retake his own, but it turns out that he’s a full professor and ought
to know about such things.

Update. Yes, I know this is a joke. But it’s a joke with a lot of
truth in it, as I gather from reading some of his other “essays”, including (but
not limited to) How to
generate a CS research topic
(joke), How to escape
during a Ph. D. final exam
(seems like a joke, until you realize that it
isn’t), and For
anyone considering a Ph. D. in Computer Science
(mostly serious).
