An interesting detail of the abduction yesterday, which sparked a
statewide civilian manhunt and ended with the kidnapper shot dead and
the two abducted girls alive:

In most cases The Associated Press does not identify victims of sexual
assault. In this case, however, the names of the girls had been widely
used because of their abduction and were released before authorities
knew they were assaulted.

A tradeoff between recovering the girls as soon as possible
(requiring all available information to be as widely available as
possible) and a possible desire for privacy after a recovery, if any, is
