I had my eyes dilated for the first time yesterday. Extremely weird. For the
most part the optometry visit was actually a lot of fun (yes, I know, I’m
strange), but the eye-dilation was very odd.

The first time I tried to focus
on something close, and found myself unable, I very nearly freaked out, on
account of a pretty strong This Is Not Right™ reation. When we finished
with the exam and went back to the lobby of the office, the optometrist
advised, “You may want to put your sunglasses on.” Not believing her (like
the sucker I am), I glanced toward the windows. POW! Over-exposed, grainy, and painful.

Subsequently, I reached no less than twice for my sunglasses case,
each time opening it to find it empty. My sunglasses, of course, were already
on my head. I spent the rest of the afternoon in a shuttered
apartment.
