For some reason, this
press release about the shutdown of Be makes me really sad.
It was
somehow easier to think of Be as a raft, full of holes and gaining
water, from which we all had to jump to save ourselves, but that can
still be seen, floating along, empty, toward some great tidal basin.
But instead, we can see it now, at a bend in the river, sunk before
it could complete its journey. Or, worse, dashed to bits on some rocks.
I know the company will continue to exist for at least three years after
filing for dissolution on March 15, but it’s still sad.
