The initial report on iTunes for Windows:
The initial report on iTunes
for Windows: It’s very slick. Almost everyone at the office
has installed it already. I’m tempted to force it on my
father-in-law and brother-in-law, mostly because it makes
dead-simple the harrowing task of burning a CD. (Seriously,
have you ever used MusicMatch Jukebox? It’s impossible
to figure out which of the eight little blue windows you need to
open, in which order, to find the correct icon (nope,
no menu item equivalent) to burn a CD.)
I’m listening to my music collection, stored on my G4 iMac, from my
Athlon work machine. Even the AACs. It’s wonderful. Just think,
Windows users will soon be sharing their playlists
effortlessly across the house/office/dorm. It’s clear that Apple
engineers have been working hard on this, and I can’t see at
this point how it might not come back to them in spades. It’s a home
run.
Oh, yeah, and, just in case you thought the iTunes Music Store had run
out of steam, well, Apple’s giving away 100
million free songs (!) in
conjunction with Pepsi products next year. And they’re steadily
accumulating titles, features (like “allowances” for kids, and gift
certificates). Oh, and the iPod has some new accessories as
well, including a flash-memory reader. (How long before we see an iPod
with a 200-dpi color display, for showing off photos and album covers?)
