On the way to my gate at SFO, I saw someone who looked vaguely familiar sitting near a coveted AC outlet, typing on a laptop. I searched my memory and realized he was Bjarne Stroustrup, almost exactly as pictured on the back of _The C++ Programming Language_.
After gathering up my courage, I approached him and asked him if he was who I had guessed. And he was! I told him I recognized him from the picture on his books, to which he replied with a smile, "That was a mistake." :-)
Seeing my shirt, he asked me if I worked at Be, or if it was "just a shirt". I told him about the Palm acquisition. After a brief amount of small talk (he doesn't use a Palm), I asked him to sign my PalmSource badge (the only thing I could think of; didn't have a book), and he did. :-)
