Feedburner tilde-a URLs?

October 5th, 2005

Noticed recently in the Slashdot RSS feed: URLs of the form

http://rss.slashdot.org//slashdot/slashdot.rdp~a/~a/~a/~a/~a/Slashdot/slashdot?m=984

(Note that rss.slashdot.org is a CNAME for FeedBurner‘s servers.) What’s FeedBurner up to here? Presumably this is some clicked-link tracking mechanism (not something I particularly enjoy having FeedBurner record, but them’s the breaks when you use a centralized service), but what’s with all the ~a/ strings?
