So, someone at the office was recently heard making fun of “The Scorpion
King” by calling it “The Eye of Argon”. I foolishly asked him, “what’s
‘The Eye of Argon?'” It was then explained to me that a story by that
name
had been submitted to a sci-fi/fantasy fiction competition in
the Bay Area something like ten years ago, and it won the Worst Fiction
award that year. It has not ever been submitted again, but it has
continued to win the Worst Fiction award every year since. Apparently,
they now have contests to see how much of this thing can be read aloud before
the reader dies of laughter. It seems to be quite a legendary piece of
fiction
.

It’s awful. But what’s even more hilarious is this MST3K
adaptation
of “The Eye of Argon” (adaptation written by a prominent
interactive-fiction author). I have to stop reading it — it’s
sending me into hysterics!
