(Incidentally, I would have done laundry at the apt. complex, if not
for a spirit-crushing sheet of paper taped to the dryer reading: “NOT
WORKING – MIMI [the landlord. -ed] HAS ORDERED A NEW MACHINE”) … come
to think of it, what a scheme that would be!
