“This isn’t right. This isn’t even wrong.”

A professor of mine in college liked to tell the story of a student who,
stumped by an essay question about which he knew nothing, wrote a
voluminous answer about something else. That student’s professor wrote
on the exam: “This isn’t right. This isn’t even wrong.” The professor
who told us that story challenged us to “aspire to the dignity, at
least, of being wrong.”
