Traffic was lousy, and I was<br \/>\nkind of distracted (I&#8217;m getting sick, so my head is getting foggy).  Oh,<br \/>\nand I got pulled over.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nTravelling westbound on 92, I debated turning on my wipers; my car had<br \/>\nbeen parked under a tree all weekend, and was full of schmutz.  I was<br \/>\ngoing slowly enough (up a hill on 92) that I figured I was probably not<br \/>\nin danger of over-spraying wiper fluid all over the car behind me (this<br \/>\nis a point of highway courtesy seldom followed). I<br \/>\nchecked my rearview mirror to see what kind of car I might be offending<br \/>\nin case traffic started moving, sending some of my wiper fluid onto his<br \/>\nwindshield.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Hey, it&#8217;s the CHP!  And they have their lights on!  And are motioning<br \/>\nme to pull over!&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=script>\n<p>[The <span class=actor>officer<\/span> walks very, very cautiously up to<br \/>\nthe passenger-side window of <span class=actor>Dan&#8217;s<\/span> car.]<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Uh, good morning?<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Officer:<\/span> Do you know why I pulled you<br \/>\nover?<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Um, no.<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Officer:<\/span> Your registration has expired.<br \/>\nSix, two thousand two.  That&#8217;s a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Uh, oh, gosh, wait, did I forget to put the sticker on?  <em>[Note:<br \/>\nthe rest of <span class=actor>Dan&#8217;s<\/span> lines must be read in the<br \/>\nstyle of the geeky monsters from <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/Title?0198781\">Monsters Inc.<\/a>]<\/em> I must<br \/>\nhave forgotten to put the sticker on.  <em>[rummages around in glovebox,<br \/>\nto the increasing unsettlement of the officer; removes an envelope and<br \/>\nempties the contents.]<\/em>  See, here it is, I just forgot to put on<br \/>\nthe sticker!<\/p>\n<p>[The <span class=actor>officer<\/span> takes the sticker-carrying<br \/>\nregistration sheet from <span class=actor>Dan&#8217;s<\/span> hands and<br \/>\nscrutinizes it.  He turns it to face <span class=actor>Dan<\/span>,<br \/>\nslowly, and begins <em>flicking<\/em> the sticker, even <em>more<\/em><br \/>\nslowly.]<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Officer:<\/span> You&#8217;ve gotta <em>put<\/em> this<br \/>\n<em>on.<\/em>  <em>[Flick, flick.]<\/em> Where are you driving this morning?<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Uh, to work, sir.<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Officer:<\/span> And where is that located?<\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Uh, Sunnyvale, sir. <em>[thinking: &#8220;I<br \/>\nwork for the <a href=\"\/erinmak\/synopses.php\/TWW\/4\/1\/long\">White<br \/>\nHouse.<\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Officer:<\/span> Well, when you <em>get<\/em> there,<br \/>\nyou <em>put<\/em> this <em>sticker<\/em> on <em>right away.<\/em>  They&#8217;ll<br \/>\npull you over for it again if you don&#8217;t.  Now accelerate slowly, and<br \/>\nmerge when it&#8217;s safe.  <em>[walks away]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=actor>Dan:<\/span> Thanks, sir, yes, I will, sir!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nTwitch, twitch.  I simply <em>do not<\/em> handle interaction with The Law<br \/>\ngracefully.  (Ask E. to tell you about the time we went through Canadian<br \/>\ncustoms.
