<c4hmj0$5io$1@camelot.ccs.neu.edu><\/a>\n<\/p>\n\nAfter many years of effort, I’ve finally finished
\nwork on a utility that will soon be available from PLT.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe utility is called “down”, for reasons that will
\nbecome clear. It takes as input an arbitrary S-expression,
\nand returns a boolean, as follows. If the S-expression
\ninput would return a Scheme value in finite time, when supplied
\nto PLT Scheme’s “eval”, “down” returns #t; otherwise it
\nreturns #f. The time needed for “down” to perform this calculation
\nis not specified. The name “down” is used, because a downward
\narrow is used to denote termination, which is what the utility
\ndetects.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe algorithm was kind of tricky to work out, but dang,
\nit works!\n<\/p>\n
