My apartment, which used to smell like flowers, carpet, and fluffy white cat, now just smells like cardboard. I opened my front door as I came home this evening, and was simply struck by what can only be described as an omnipresent corrugated funk. (How’s that for a band name?)

Hmmmm.

Pack, or watch Drunken Master II?

I can’t say that the time change (which means it feels like it’s only 9PM) is helping me out here.

I’m beginning to undertand why I’ve been staying so late at the office. I had assumed it was because Erin’s not there, that I had no incentive to be home at a reasonable hour. But I think the real answer is more subtle, less conscious: I think I’m avoiding my apartment, avoiding the lonely task of disassembling the little life we’ve made here over the last three years.

I’m shutting down my iMac to pack it up. Slowly, very slowly, the accreted signs of our life here are dissolving away. Our apartment is devolving to an earlier state. Later this week, there will be nothing left.

Some mementos from home (for travelling girls who might forget!).

We’ve started moving things around.
