More end-of-year superlatives: Penny-Arcade picks the World of Warcraft online game as #1 of 2004. “World of Warcraft is so rich that there are almost an unlimited number of things to fight with your wife about.” (See also: today’s comic, and the rest of the year-end game rankings: 1 2 3.)
Shelley of Scary Go Round narrates John Allison’s top 20 albums of the year: 1 2 3 4.
“Actor Jerry Orbach, star of Law and Order, has died of prostate cancer, a representative of the show said.” [Update 1/2/05: E! Online has a pretty comprehensive report on the memorial.]
Continuing a tradition, jwz offers a 2004 music wrap-up. “Dear 2005, please try harder. Thank you.” (Warning: still metal-heavy.)
“Well, I’m back after an inexcusably long absence from blogging here on JIMWICh.” With that, Jim Leftwich has started up his blog again, after a substantial hiatus (including a brief stint at my former employer).
“If you’re like me, virtually all of your time is now spent between two inboxes: your email and your RSS feed…” I usually just snag this sort of entry in my widening del.icio.us net, but I particularly like Blog design in the age of RSS, from the blog for the forthcoming book, The Long Tail.
The authors and editors of Wikipedia are doing a fantastic job of keeping on top of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. All the latest statistics, stories, and links, in Wikipedia’s characteristically easy-to-digest format.
Amar is in Jerusalem. “Imagine Venice, except it’s not this artificial tourist mecca– people are heavily invested here, heavily armed, heavily hasidic, arabic, 1000 armenians left from the genocide, christians coming to via dolorosa, muslims headed to al aqsa… it means so much to everybody.”

Matt Haynie, live from Scotland (where he appears to be in some kind of iSight-enabled jail).

We’re having a white Christmas Eve here in Houston. It’s been an excuse to play around with Flickr, which I’ve been procrastinating mightily. Hopefully the accumulation (about a half-inch, maybe more) will still be there in the morning.

Elsewhere: flickr photos tagged “snow” and “houston”; Metroblogging Houston; Houston Chronicle.

As seen in Metroblogging Houston:

Just in case you don’t know the Lord of the Rings Exhibit will be here this summer at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The exhibit will open on June 5th and run through August 28th. It was created in exclusive partnership with New Line Cinema and will feature costumes, jewelry, armor and weapons, models, and information on the digital effect and makeup used in the film. You can find information on the exhibit here.

The Rice Coffeehouse recently announced that they are planning a renovation, and have posted several concepts drawn up by Vaughn and Clarkson Architects. Of course, I can never leave well enough alone, and so when I read that the Coffeehouse was looking for additional input, I doodled some ideas of my own on the whiteboard in our office, and fired off an email.

Of course, I never heard anything back from the Coffeehouse, so I might as well share it with all of you. [Update 1/21/05: The Coffeehouse has moved ahead with a new concept.]

There’s more; read on. (I can’t seem to stop talking sometimes.)
