I am currently a software engineer at Google, where as a member of the Android platform team I build frameworks and user interfaces.
The blog here at dsandler.org is mostly historical; you can find more recent posts on Google+.

Let me use the following surveillance photo to illustrate why our downstairs
neighbors are evil, and why regime change is necessary on humanitarian
grounds:
The
Volvos belong to the mothers of the children of the boys living
with their parents (the couple on the lease downstairs). The
whole nook-yu-lar family shows up frequently, occupying the driveway, the
washer/dryer (when operational), and just
generally turning this little garden-apartment building into a circus.
Our
car is the little silver Saturn parked in one of the four legitimate
parking spaces
(#2, under the deck, at top left in the picture). I guess I’ll be eating in
tonight.
Don’t get me started on the grandkids and their favorite game
throwing rocks at our door, and watching them bounce back down the stairs
currently in progress.
jwz: I’ve already developed a
deep and abiding hate for that
hidious little spinning rainbow disc that means “something has probably
gone horribly wrong, but I’m going to protect you from knowing what.”
Cory Doctorow weighs in with a massive
missive on the Google/Pyra deal.
(Incidentally, I would have done laundry at the apt. complex, if not
for a spirit-crushing sheet of paper taped to the dryer reading: “NOT
WORKING – MIMI [the landlord. -ed] HAS ORDERED A NEW MACHINE”) … come
to think of it, what a scheme that would be!
Heavily-contended-for washer + fake out-of-order sign = perpetual
resource availability!)
By the way, I’ve spent the last hour sitting here in Launderland, which
is right across from where we newlyweds stayed for two weeks when we
Went West in 2000. We did our laundry here then, and I’m feeling a
strong kind of fitting, full-circle sort of vibe now as I sheepishly watch
my boxers con corazones tumble themselves dry on the other
side of the room.
