I played Ambrosia’s latest, Escape Velocity: Nova, for a few hours last night. (I’m unwilling to specifically qualify “a few” at this time.)

My punishment came in the form of a blinding headache behind my right eye (the kind of thing I used to think was a migraine until I learned that it was eye-muscle strain). I had to go to bed at 9:30.

Don’t worry; I have an appointment with the optometrist next weekend. It’ll be my first in several years (I’m unwilling to specifically qualify “several” at this time).

The guy downstairs with the motorcycle has been trying to diagnose some engine trouble for the last half-hour or so. As such, he’s been redlining the engine outside, which has filled our apartment with partially-combusted fuel fumes (in addition to making a terrible racket).

Just got back from dropping Erin off at the airport. It’s so very early to be up on a Saturday!

Salon on “Mr. Deeds”: “You could argue that this is already way too much analysis for a Sandler movie, and you’d be right.” […] “Indie godhead Steve Buscemi, however, doesn’t even try to make his cameo as a googly-eyed Mandrake Falls yokel interesting, and is hereby remanded to the custody of the We Network to play an endless series of alcoholic ex-husbands.”

[09:57] <ctate-gone> being incindiary, dsandler?
[09:58] <dsandler> No, just being a smart-ass on the “video games for PDAs” thread. http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=35043&cid=3786853

Man, I did so many t-shirts in college … how can I pass up the chance to design a Moby t-shirt?
Salon is on its last legs. This is extraordinarily disappointing. Erin and I are Salon Premium subscribers, because the content is just that good. (Daily, too!) Even Amar subscribes.
Now that Verisign has coughed up the top-level domains .org and .net so that it can keep control of .com until 2007, The Internet Software Consortium and the Internet Multicasting Service have entered a proposal to turn the .org domain into a public trust. (Their logo for the proposal, shown at left, bears a striking similarity to the dsandler.org logotype. The difference: They’re using Bodoni; I’m using Filosofia.)
Why did I receive a link to this dubious ‘news item’ from a coworker, via work email?
Lexus has a really nice Minority Report site, showcasing their concept mag-lev car in a pretty engaging Flash interface.
Ninth circuit court of appeals rules the “under God” clause of the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional. In my opinion, you don’t have to be an atheist or pantheist to take offense at “under God” in this context (as implied by the last paragraph of the CNN article). You just have to feel that it’s inappropriate to make kids chant the phrase in public school.
The exploit in OpenSSH is finally described. The hole can be closed by turning off unused authentication schemes in your sshd, or by turning on privilege separation (available in server version 3.3 and later). OpenSSH 3.4, which patches the vulnerability, is available from openssh.com.
You know, Arthur Andersen LLP isn’t going to last the year if it keeps this sort of thing up.

plog : blogging for palm os
plog is fixed. It’s been broken for Blogger users for a couple of months now, thanks to some breakage at Blogger. I’ve patched plog to avoid the broken server code, and all is well for the time being.

Holy shit. Who starts an extended-family barbecue at 10:30 PM?

Oh, yeah. Our neighbors, whose patio is below our bedroom window.

Erin and I got mixed up with the construction on hwy. 92 last night, and sort of got detoured around. It was a really pretty evening, though — did you happen to see it?
