A wonderful article by Mark Simonson on the scourge of Arial.
The Register has a transcript of their interview with Benoit and Dominic at Applewood in Menlo Park (across from the old Be building).
Man, my wife’s mashed potatoes are the best. Even on day 2.
In the “let’s all be thankful that didn’t happen” category: a 1960s Beatles version of the “Lord of the Rings”.
This account of a certain consulting company’s San Francisco office is really shocking to me. I interviewed in that office (the one they’re still in); I remember the different floors, the soda fountain. Crazy.
Well, OK, things aren’t quite back to normal yet. False alarm.
As of about midnight last night, the httpd/php problem was traced to mod_gzip and resolved. dsandler.org should be back up to full speed again.

Wow, there was nobody on 101 this morning. I’m at the office, and it’s 7:20.
What about the problem of evil? Go work on that and leave the draperies be.
By the way, the thing with dsandler.org today is that it will throw away your browser’s first request. Yeah, I know, it’s really sucky. I’m told it’s being worked on.
Asteroids champ found. He died 13 years ago, however, “rounding up his cat”. “The fate of his cat is unknown.”
Chris has come by one of these, and it’s almost embarrassing how entertaining it is.
Yikes, this page looks bad in Netscape 4.7/Mac. Oh, well.
Well, we’re back up here at dsandler.org. We may go down again. We may not. We’re wacky that way!
I was recently directed to an excellent (no, really) advertisement for backup software: The Tao of Backup. (Of course, since dsandler.org is down right now, you can’t read this and don’t care.)

Crap.

The water heater in our apartment building exploded. Not likely to be fixed by tomorrow.

Weird routing problems today. Or DNS problems. Or something. It’s spotty, like everything about the Internet. (I don’t like spotty or irregular or nondeterministic behavior in computers. “They’re supposed to be our faithful servants!”)

Highlight of my day so far: testing out my long-atrophied foosball muscles. (I won two out of three games, if you must know.)
