“Boy, Interrupted”

Sex and the City season 6, episode 10
Original air date: August 24, 2003

Question of the Week: Did we have it right in high school?

And scene:
Carrie's giving a lot of thought to high school and how things have (or haven't) changed in the intervening years. Could be because her high school boyfriend (played by David Duchovny) has looked her up, and they're having a great time making out all around town.

Turns out, though, that hsbf is suffering from a little bout of craziness. He's voluntarily checked himself into a mental hospital, from which he's allowed to come and go to meet Carrie. Puts a damper on her plans to finally go all the way with him.

Miranda, too, feels like she's back in high school when Dr. Feelgood says he has two tickets to a Knicks game ... and hands them both to her when she says she'd love to go. She takes Charlotte courtside with her, and gets really upset when she sees one of the cheerleaders flirting with her crush. She confronts him at their mailboxes (which craftily look a lot like lockers as they're standing there), and he protests that he's not interested in the cheerleader. He likes someone else — Miranda — and kisses her to prove it.

Meanwhile, Samantha is being snubbed by the cool kids at a new rooftop pool club, and it's driving her crazy. After the waiting list proves a bit too frustrating, she sneaks into the pool using a membership card she finds in the ladies' room. Unfortunately, one of the pool attendants reminds her that the member she's impersonating is British and is in London right now. Given that he claims to be from the same part of England as the real member, Samantha's fake accent does little to convince him she's not an impostor.

Carrie's high school breakup coincides nicely with Stanford's split from Marcus, leaving her free to accompany Stanford to his prom (a gala he's put together for a glbt center). Stanford felt betrayed when learning that Marcus used to be a male escort and had never told him. However, Marcus shows up at the prom, grovels to Stanford that he's sorry for the betrayal, and they get back together. At the prom, on the dance floor. How romantic!
