Friends season 9, episode
4 Phoebe's at Central Perk, waiting for Mike to pick her up for their next date. Ross asks her if it's turning serious, and she says she doesn't really know. Ross then compliments her on her whole approach to dating - moving from guy to guy, not caring whether it's moving too fast or too slow. He's honestly trying to compliment her, contrasting her lifestyle with his incessant obsession about every relationship, but it makes her realize that she hasn't ever had a long-term relationship. She gets really upset and starts crying, right about the same time Mike shows up for the date. She tries to pull herself together, and they go. In the meantime, Joey and Monica are hanging out at Central Perk, and Joey's trying to figure out if the lady at the counter is hot or not. Monica encourages him to go talk to her, but he doesn't want to until he can see her face. Monica's also telling him about how she misses Chandler and she's thinking about surprising him in Tulsa. Joey encourages her to go for it, and she heads to the bathroom. The lady at the counter turns around and Joey inadvertently says "Hot!" out loud, catching her attention. He introduces himself and asks her out. Ross stops by Phoebe's to find out how the date went, and she explains that she spent the whole date pretty weepy, because of what Ross said just before she left. He apologizes, and she says the worse part is that Mike could've been her "serious guy." Ross decides to fix things by paying a visit to Mike to explain Phoebe's crying on their date, which sort of freaks Mike out. Mike assures Ross that he's not put off by Phoebe's crying, and that they're going out again. Ross lets it drop that Phoebe's never been in a serious relationship, though, which does put Mike off, so Ross tries to cover it up by saying that she's never been in a serious relationship since her breakup with "Vikram." Ross then has to make up facts about Vikram, the freelance kite-maker, which he then shares with Phoebe. She's furious that Ross is digging her in deeper, but when Mike shows up for their next date, she can't bring herself to tell him the truth. Ross leaves, and she continues the Vikram charade, until Mike kisses her. She then has to tell him the truth, and strangely enough, he's not put off enough to break up with her. Monica does surprise Chandler in Tulsa, but when she lets herself into his hotel room, he's in the middle of watching porn. He can't quite pull himself together in time, and only manages to get his pants up and the channel changed. As she's hugging him, she sees a shark show on TV and assumes that Chandler was pleasuring himself to the shark show. She's totally disgusted, but Rachel explains that men are weird and do that kind of thing. Monica resigns herself to it, and when Chandler's next home, she rents a nature video with sharks and says she'll watch it with him to "get in the mood." He has no idea what she's talking about, and when she elaborates, he figures out that she thinks he's turned on by sharks. He reassures her that nothing's further from the truth. Meanwhile, Joey's on his date with the girl from Central Perk, and when they go back to her place, he realizes that it looks familiar. He can remember having sex on various pieces of furniture, but can't remember the girl at all. She doesn't remember him, either, and he disturbed that maybe he's losing his touch. Monica and Rachel chastise him for having worked his way through all of New York City's women, and not even remembering some of them, but he figures if neither he nor the girl remembers it, that there's no harm in going out again. He does, and when they go back to her place, he confronts her about not remembering him. She's sure that she hasn't slept with Joey, and when her roommate comes home, Joey realizes that it was the roommate he slept with before and not the girl from Central Perk. Of course, that nullifies his chances of ever sleeping with the girl from Central Perk, so the date is over. |
