Friends season 9, episode 2
Original air date: October 03, 2002

When Rachel brings Emma home, Monica and Phoebe are waiting with banners and gifts. Chandler can barely stay awake, because he was up all night worrying about the big divisional meeting he has that morning. Rachel and Ross come in with Emma, and as Ross is unloading all the stuff they brought home from the hospital, he realizes he forgot the diapers. He heads out to get some, and Rachel asks him to get a muffin for her on the way back.

As he's ready to leave Central Perk, after getting Rachel's muffin, Joey walks in. Ross refuses to speak to him, but Joey's insistent that they really need to settle the whole "you asked Rachel to marry you" thing. Ross launches into a little tirade about "set aside the fact that you 'accidentally' asked Rachel to marry you, and I even understand that you couldn't talk to her, but why couldn't you talk to me?" Joey stops him and says that he doesn't really understand when people do "this" (air quotes). Ross stares at him like he can't believe that Joey's that stupid (has he never seen this show before?), and Joey tries it out himself saying: "I'm sorry." (with air quotes) Ross just looks at him and shakes his head: "Not using it right, Joe." So Joey brings his fingers in close to his face and mouths "I'm sorry" again.

Ross tries to just walk away, but Joey grabs the muffin bag and holds it away from Ross, telling Ross to hit him so he'll feel better. He keeps antagonizing Ross until he caves and punches out at Joey. Joey instinctively ducks, though, and Ross hits a metal post instead, breaking his thumb. He yells at Joey for ducking, and Joey apologizes, claiming instinct. He tries to explain that when somebody punches you, you duck, and says "Here." He demonstrates by punching Ross, who doesn't instinctively duck, in the face. They head out to the hospital together, but as they're leaving Central Perk, Joey smacks Ross in the face with the door, leading Joey to try the air quotes one more time - "Oops." (NB: This may be the funniest scene I've ever seen on Friends. Jeremy - you can borrow the tape. It's so good you really have to see it!)

Meanwhile, back in the apartment, Rachel's so ga-ga over Emma that she says she just has to wake her up. Monica and Phoebe try to talk her out of it, but she does it anyway, leading Emma to cry non-stop for hours. They try everything in the baby books to get her to stop, but the only thing that quiets her down (several hours later) is when Monica holds her. Rachel tells Monica she has to stay and be available all the time.

And Chandler keeps falling asleep in his big divisional meeting. When he wakes up, his boss' boss is asking, "Is everyone on board with this?" She turns to Chandler and asks if he's on board with it. He has no idea what she's talking about, so he just says yes. At which point, she says, "Good, then it's settled. Chandler will be running our Tulsa office." He comes home and tells Monica, who's furious. He promises to fix it, but when he goes in to talk to his boss' boss, he keeps tripping over his words and making the situation worse. So he has to come back and tell Monica that they're moving to Tulsa. And at that point, she's just gotten Emma to stop crying, so she can't yell at him.
