Friends season 9, episode 1

Rachel's shocked when she sees Joey down on one knee with the ring that fell out of Ross' coat, and she's terrified at the thought of raising Emma alone, so she just gasps and says, "OK!" He's taken aback, but doesn't have a chance to explain, because Ross comes in bearing flowers, having been talked into proposing by Phoebe. Everyone else joins them, and then they all head off to the nursery to see Emma.

Joey asks Chandler's advice, which is not to say anything to Ross until he's had a chance to straighten everything out with Rachel. Joey heads off to do just that, and Chandler and Monica sneak off to the closet again to continue trying to make a baby. Unfortunately, Mr. Geller decides to peek in on the people in the closet that he can hear through the door. They explain, very awkwardly, that they weren't just doing it for fun, but that they were trying to conceive.

Meanwhile, Phoebe's gotten to Rachel before Joey, and Rachel says "I think I just got engaged." Phoebe assumes she means to Ross, and farce ensues as they talk about the engagement, each of them not knowing what the other's talking about. Rachel says she's not sure about the engagement and that it doesn't really feel right, but Phoebe's talking her into it, again assuming that she's talking about Ross.

Joey and Ross interrupt them, and so once again, Joey doesn't have a chance to explain things to Rachel. Ross says he doesn't want to interrupt, so he heads out again, and Joey follows to try and talk to Ross. Rachel, alone again, finds the ring in Ross' coat pocket, where Joey put it back. It's huge and gorgeous and she puts it on immediately. Joey comes in and starts to explain, but the nurse brings Emma in to try breastfeeding. All the talk about nipples and breasts drives Joey out of the room.

Phoebe meets up with Ross in the lounge and congratulates him on the engagement. He doesn't know what she's talking about, and he assures her that he never proposed to Rachel. They walk into Rachel's room to straighten things out, but she's sleeping. They see the ring on her finger, and Ross starts to doubt himself - it is his ring, and he was thinking about giving it to her, and he's so tired that he honestly can't remember if he proposed or not.

He then confronts Rachel, and says, "I didn't propose." She says, "I know, Joey did," and he patronizingly says, "No, neither of us did." She starts to explain that she's not crazy, and Joey comes in. He then explains that technically he never proposed - that Rachel only saw him down on one knee with a ring and made an assumption. She realizes that that's true and feels like a total idiot.

Joey leaves, and Ross and Rachel are left alone with Emma. Ross mentions to Rachel that he's been thinking about them a lot lately, and she admits that she has been, too. Seems like everything's going to work out fine ... until Ross realizes: "Wait, you're wearing the ring...And you told Phoebe that you were engaged...Did you say 'Yes'?"
