“The One Where Chandler Gets Caught”
Friends season 10, episode
10 Phoebe polls everyone about whether they'd give up food or sex, if they had to. Monica's very quick to choose sex, and Ross easily chooses food. Although then, when Phoebe challenges him whether he'd give up sex or dinosaurs, he can't decide. Joey's equally torn about the decision between food and sex, and eventually concedes that he really wants "girls on bread." Rachel and Phoebe are looking through pictures of Emma when they see Chandler get into the car with a pretty blonde. Phoebe suspects him of having an affair, which Rachel doesn't buy. To prove it, she calls him on his cell phone and asks if he wants to go see a movie with the two of them. He covers and says he has to work all day. Phoebe and Rachel decide to follow him to see where he's going. When he gets home, it seems that Monica knew exactly where he was all day: checking out a house in the suburbs with their real estate agent. He loved it as much as she did when she saw it, and they decide to make an offer. They agree not to tell the others that they're considering a move to Westchester until they know it's certain. Unfortunately, the others are all discussing Phoebe and Rachel's recon mission. They said they saw him drive up to a house with this blonde, stay in it for about 45 minutes, and when the two of them came out, they seemed pretty happy. They agree that they need to talk to Monica about it, so they go to break the news. She pretends shock when they present the evidence about the "affair," and her first question is, "What did you think of the house?" Joey goes to comfort her, and she asks, "Seriously — did you think the neighborhood was homey?" Chandler comes home as they're all discussing this, and they all turn on him. Monica explains that Phoebe and Rachel saw him with the real estate agent, and they break the news to the gang that they're looking at a house in the suburbs. No one can believe it, and Joey asks, "Shouldn't we all vote on stuff like this?!" Monica and Chandler try to explain that with the baby coming, they really think a house in the suburbs is a better idea. In the course of trying to convince Monica and Chandler not to leave the city, they run through some of their favorite moments in that apartment: Rachel running away from her wedding; Joey getting Monica's Thanksgiving turkey stuck on his head; Monica and Rachel fighting over who has to move out when Chandler wants to move in; the time that they traded apartments with the guys after losing the trivia contest; and so forth. While they're reminiscing, Chandler takes a call from the real estate agent. He tells everyone that the seller wouldn't go a penny under the asking price. As he's comforting Monica, everyone clears out to let Chandler and Monica deal with it together. After everyone leaves, Chandler reveals that they did, in fact, get the house; he just didn't want to say it in front of everyone. To solve the dilemma of how they're going to break it to everyone, they get everybody some nice gifts, dump them on them, tell them about the house, and run away. |
