“Ice”

Alias season 4, episode 3
Original air date: January 19, 2005

Sydney and Vaughn go to pick up an American in Montenegro who has offered to sell the agency a bioweapon known as Ice-5. Unfortunately, the American has swallowed the sample, which leaks into his bloodstream and turns him into, as Sydney says, "a human popsicle." He's tracked and killed before Sydney and Vaughn can extract him, and he shatters into pieces as the bullets hit him.

Sydney goes undercover in a Montenegro hospital to take down Fenton Keene, an ex-IRA officer who is dealing in Ice-5 now. While there, she discovers that the hospital is run by his sister, who seems to be doing good works to atone for her and her brother's past IRA misdeeds. Vaughn goes undercover as an American priest who gets into a bar fight, and he tries to convince Meghan, Keene's sister, to turn her brother over to him. She seems to agree, and she sets up a time for Vaughn to ambush Keene. Unfortunately, it turns out that she's a turncoat, and she's really set Vaughn up to be handed over to Keene.

Keene is all set to inject Ice-5 into Vaughn's eye, while Meghan stands by and watches, but then he changes his mind and forces Meghan to do it. Luckily, Sydney shows up to rescue Vaughn, rendering it moot. She and Keene fight, and as they do, the syringe ends up in Meghan. Sydney takes out Keene, who's momentarily stunned to have killed his own sister, while Meghan dies in Vaughn's arms.

Back at home, Nadia has come across a picture of Irina holding a baby. The picture seems to be too old for the baby to by Sydney, so she and Sydney are both curious about whose baby it is. Nadia asks both Jack and Sloane, but they're evasive. All Jack will say is that he saw that picture and Irina told him that it was her niece and that holding that niece filled her with longing and hope to have her own children, which caused Jack to ask her to marry him.
