Addendum to post #1

Upon further reflection, I’ve decided that the way I feel about my teaching is that it’s “basic.” I’m not going above and beyond what’s in the book, because I don’t feel equipped yet to do so, nor do I feel like I have the time. However, in light of the Reader’s Digest debacle, it’s clear that I need to go beyond basic as much as I can. I also need to do more of the metacognition stuff that we’ve talked about, so that I can anticipate where my students are going to have problems with the assignments and map out my plan of attack beforehand. I also expect that after a semester of teaching this, I’ll have a better understanding of where problems will occur and how to pre-empt them.
